           INSULIN  PLANT (COSTUS IGNEUS)

Costus Igneus is commonly known as Insulin Plant in India.

This medicinal plant is a magic cure for diabetes. Its leaves help building up insulin in the human body by strengthening the beta cells in the pancreas and , therefore, called as the 'insulin plant' in India.

In Ayurvedic treatment diabetic patients are advised to chew down the insulin plant's leaves @ 2 leaves in the morning and 2 in the evening initially for a fortnight, and thereafter one leaf in the morning and one in the evening.

Having natural concentration of Corosolic acid, Insulin plant can have a positive effect on blood sugar on both fasting as well as postprandial. Corosolic acid works in metabolism of glucoseprocess like insulin that reduces blood sugar levels by transporting glucose into cells and out of the bloodstream. This can be beneficial to anyone who has trouble with high blood sugar levels, and particular to that in Diabetes.

Identification of the Plant: The plant has large fleshy looking leaves. Undersides of these large, dark green leaves have light purple shade. The leaves are arranged around the stem, forming arching clumps from underground rootstocks.
